Finding a work/life balance
It’s slowly turning to autumn here in the UK and it feels like everyone has just returned back from a much needed summer break and are now getting back into the swing of things.
It’s so easy to take a break from work and start to feel refreshed and like YOU again; but then get straight back into work and within a week you are feeling as frazzled as you were before you went on holiday.
If this sounds like you here are a few tips which can help you to restore some balance and keep that zen feeling from going….
Definitely one of my new favourite areas of focus (and no, it’s not selfish). But, simply put, you can’t continue do a good job at work or be present for others if you aren’t taken care of yourself. Make time in your schedule to do things that nourish you and bring you joy. Even just five to ten minutes a day!
2. Establish some boundaries
It can feel like we’re on call 24/7 with smart phones, tablets, laptops etc etc. But it’s up to you to establish your working and non-working hours, then perhaps set guidelines for how and when to reach you out of working hours if this is necessary. You could stop checking emails after 8pm every night and never before 8am for example (as a minimum), then people will learn that they won’t hear from you out of these times and will learn to wait on things, or call you if it really is urgent.
3. Get support from family and friends
Getting family and friends on board with your new work/life boundaries and vision will help to keep you accountable.
Finally, if you are finding it really hard to keep your work/life balance in check and feel that you may be compromising on your own time, it could be time to re-evaluate where you are at and what you can do to make some changes.
